Source Of Gravity first appeared on the Progressive House/Trance music scene in 1999 with big tracks such as "Futuristic Visions", "Deception" and "Perseverance" all of which received huge DJ support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman and Christopher Lawrence.
Source Of Gravity's music releases were released on 12" Vinyl on 3 Beat, Pied Piper Records and Chris Steriopulos's own imprints Source Of Gravity Records and Gravitation. The original members of Source Of Gravity were Mark Wheawill, Chris Sterio (Chris Steriopulos) and his brother Ollie Sterio (Oliver Steriopulos). However, they split up and stopped making records together in 2003 when Mark Wheawill signed to Method Records and Baroque Records releasing his own music on these major rival imprints. Mark believes Chris and Ollie saw this as him jumping ship to further his own career. At the time, Mark believed it was the best move to find more success.
Initially, at the start of the Source Of Gravity project, Chris Sterio was doing all the DJ'ing and just adding his voice to music releases under the Source Of Gravity artist name whilst Mark Wheawill was kept firmly in the background writing, engineering and producing the music which became known as the signature sound for Source Of Gravity and he should have essentially been the one performing at DJ gigs around the globe, but Chris Sterio insisted he should be the DJ. This is what Mark cites as the beginnings of the end of the Progressive House/Trance music production team. It wasn't really a team in Mark's opinion. At the very minimum Mark should have been sharing DJ'ing duties with Chris, but Chris stole the limelight and took all the DJ bookings which furthered his own DJ'ing career and it got his name known more so than Mark's who recorded under other pseudonyms at the time.
In a complete U-turn, 20 years later, Source Of Gravity reformed in 2023 as just a duo featuring Mark Wheawill and Chris Sterio with new music releases on Chris's new record label - Soundscapes Digital which is also based in the Isle Of Man like Source Of Gravity Records and Gravitation. The first digital release in 20 years was "Addiction" which featured Mark's vocals and lyrics written by Chris Sterio. The track was meant to be a follow up to the massive track "Perseverance" which was released about 20 years earlier. Source Of Gravity went onto release a few more singles together before splitting up again. The other tracks were "The Now", "Liquid Space", "Focus" and "Time To Move On".
Mark Wheawill cites the second split with Chris Sterio as a result of his selfishness and greed. Mark says Chris scammed him when it came to signing the digital contracts. The digital contracts were all in favour of the distributor - Proton Soundsystem and Chris's record label - Soundscapes Digital. So, after a while, Mark decided to split with Chris and carry on the Source Of Gravity project by himself and released a new debut mini album called Source Of Gravity "Source Of Gravity". Initially, it was only available on Bandcamp. But now it can be bought direct from the Source Of Gravity Music Portal and online shop as soon as it becomes live. Mark plans to release new music under the Source Of Gravity artist name in the not too distant future and is open to taking DJ Bookings too. Check out the "Promos" section at the top of the main menu to listen to and download DJ Mixes by Mark.
Despite being largely kept in the background, Mark has had a very successful solo career to date releasing his own music and has been described by some people as the "best DJ on the planet". There is no one like him on Earth who can sing and also play multiple instruments as well as being partially deaf in his right ear after losing the high frequencies which is known as Mild Sensorineural hearing loss. Mark also plays a wide variety of sub genres of Electronic Dance Music too which makes him stand out from the rest of the DJ'ing
fraternity.
MORE ABOUT MARK WHEAWILL:
Mark Wheawill is an Electronic Dance Music Producer, MJ and DJ hailing from Manchester, UK. Mark was the Singer and Rhythm guitarist of the infamous grunge band “Pop Love Haze” in his teenage years and later went on to produce over 35 electronic dance music records (mainly Progressive House/Progressive Trance) under many different pseudonyms including Vitality, Evenflow, Source Of Gravity, TSYT, 4th Orbit, Bravemusic, Outlanders and also under his own name in the early noughties.
His 12″ vinyl singles were released on a number of different record label’s including Baroque Records, Method Records and Source Of Gravity Recordings and he also featured on several CD compilations around the globe.
Mark was a rising star in the Progressive House/Trance music scene in about 2003 and he had huge success with the track – Evenflow “Indecisive” (Baroque Records) which was played at the legendary club – Cream in Liverpool. His music was supported by Superstar DJ’s such as Armin Van Buuren on his “A State of Trance” radio show in the Netherlands and also by Sasha, Paul Oakenfold and Nick Warren to name a few.
His 12″ vinyl release – Vitality “Skylite” on Method Records received Tune of the Month in IDJ Magazine in the UK in 2003 and many other releases, most notably – Mark Wheawill “Transition” (Baroque Records) and Source Of Gravity “Perseverance” (Pied Piper Records) were recommended Tunes of the Month in the same magazine.
Mark also worked with legendary Progressive House act Tilt on a remix project for a short period of time. After leaving the record label’s he was signed to, Mark decided to start his own record label – TSYT RECORDINGS and self-funded and self-released his debut album – Vitality “Vitality” in 2004 which received great accolades. He also DJ’d on Key 103 FM (which was Manchester’s biggest radio station at the time) in 2003 to approximately 15,000 listeners.
During an interview in 2003 with Residentadvisor.com which is an online dance music magazine based in Australia, Mark mentioned that he wanted to work with Christina Aguilera and Kylie. Mark didn’t expect it to get taken so seriously, but it ended up going viral on the internet and Christina Aguilera fans as far away as Brazil were asking “Who the hell is Mark Wheawill?” on forums on the web.
In 2004, Mark officially parted company with the record label’s which he had previously been signed to and released his debut album “Vitality” on his own record company – TSYT RECORDINGS Ltd. In 2005, Mark completed a couple of bootleg remixes of Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” which caused an almighty stir! Although these remixes never had an official release, they were highly praised and sought after by those that heard the track.
Not long after this, Mark became ill and suffered from mental health and had a very lengthy break from music production and DJ’ing. It became apparent a few years ago in 2017 that Mark had suffered from mild sensorineural hearing loss due to working in noisy environments for most of his life. So, Mark has adjusted to life and adapted to change and is in the process of rebuilding his recording studio back to the level it was at before the year 2005. He was also suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and diabetes at the time and depression and social anxiety for well over a decade.
Source Of Gravity's music is available to buy from our online shop as soon as it becomes live and also Bandcamp and all the other usual streaming and download platforms.
